David Margulies: Ghostbusters actor dies aged 78

David Margulies, an actor most famous for his role in Ghostbusters, has died in New York aged 78.

His agent confirmed his passing on Monday in a statement released to the Associated Press news agency. His cause of death is currently unknown.

Margulies began his career on stage. His debut role on Broadway came in 1973 and was followed by 12 more stints on Broadway throughout his career, including playing Ray Cohn in the production of Angels in America.

In 1984 he appeared on screen as the mayor of New York in Ghostbusters, returning in 1989 for the sequel.

In 1994 he starred alongside Jim Carey in Ace Ventura: Pet Detective as the doctor and more recently featured in A Most Violent Year alongside Jessica Chastain and David Oyelowo in 2014.

He also had numerous stints on television playing Tony Soprano’s lawyer Neil Mink on The Sopranos from 2000 to 2007, and guest roles in Law & Order and The Good Wife.

He is survived by his partner Lois Smith, his children and grandchildren.
