David Jason recalls moment he collapsed when 'muscles weren't working' with Covid

Sir David Jason has shared his worrying experience of having Covid , saying he was left so weak with the virus that he was unable to stand up.

The 82-year-old actor told the BBC that he collapsed onto the floor and found himself unable to move when he had Covid in July. Only Fools and Horses star David recalled that he was left with carpet burns across his face after resorting to dragging himself across the floor head-first, The Mirror reports .

Speaking on BBC Breakfast, David said: “Because all the muscles weren't working, I collapsed and I fell against the radiator... I was so weak, I couldn't get up. I crawled to the bed.

“The muscles weren't working and I used the bed to try and stand up so that I could go to where I wanted to get, and also get back into bed, and I couldn't… I tried for about a quarter of an hour, trying all sorts of things to stand up so I could walk about,” he recalled.

“My arms wouldn't work and my legs wouldn't work, so being a very creative and inventive person, I thought, how will I get from here to the door?” It was at this point the actor used his head to drag himself along the floor, comparing himself to a walrus as he recounted the story.

Luckily, his wife then came in and managed to help him get back into bed. “But later on the next day, I got carpet burns all down on my forehead and across the top of my nose,” David said.

Admitting that the ordeal was “seriously bad”, the acting legend has now recovered from the virus. He is bringing out a new book this week telling stories from the making of the Only Fools and Horses festive specials, entitled The Twelve Dels of Christmas .
