David Harbour and Lily Allen's romance as actor stars as Santa in gory Christmas film

David Harbour rose to fame following a series of on-screen roles over the years.

But, his biggest break came as he appeared as loveable rogue James "Jim" Hopper in the Netflix hit Stranger Things.

The 47-year-old actor has now taken on a new role as a Santa Claus who will stop at nothing to save a family who have been taken hostage by a team of mercenaries in action-comedy Violent Night.

The new movie, which is a gory twist on your average Christmas flick, will be available to watch in cinemas as well as on Netflix and is set for release on Friday December 2.

As he joined the joined his cast mates John Leguizamo, Alexis Louder and Beverly D'Angelo on the red carpet for the movie's premiere, David was also joined by his beloved wife Lily Allen.

The couple's romance came as a pleasant surprise to fans – as the pair originate from different sides of the pond.

Here, we take a look at the New York actor and the London-born singer's love story...

How did David Harbour and Lily Allen meet?

In June this year, Stranger Things actor David revealed he and Smile singer Lily, 37, met on a dating app.

Speaking to James Corden on The Late Late Show, during a special filmed in London, David spilled: "We met one of them dating apps and then we went on a date at The Wolseley restaurant in London – I was shooting a movie here.

"She walked in and she said this about me – she claims to have fallen in love with me at first sight," David said as he let out a big laugh. "But she said, 'When I saw you, I saw the biggest person I've ever seen in my life and, also, the smallest person I've ever seen in my life.

"Isn't that interesting? That is what made her fall in love with me is that I was very big and also very small in some way. I don't know what that means," he joked.

David was filming Marvel movie Black Widow when he met Lily. The film was later released in 2021.

Romance rumours

The actor and singer-songwriter were first romantically linked in January 2019, when they attended the BAFTA Tea party.

David and Lily were later spotted together in London in August of the same year, as he filmed Black Widow.

Later, the pair were spotted at Saturday Night Live's afterparty in October, which celebrated David fronting the acclaimed comedy programme.

In the same month, the pair appeared to confirmed their romance as Lily shared photos from David's SNL appearance.

As Lily posted photos of the actor flexing his biceps in a sketch to parody a spin class, she captioned the snaps as: "Mine". Later, Lily and David were photographed locking lips as they grabbed lunch together.

First public appearance

After Lily swooned over David's SNL appearance and packing on the PDA, the couple made their first red carpet appearance together in October 2019.

Lily and David glowed with happiness as they attended The Skin Cancer Foundation's Champions for Change Gala at the Plaza Hotel in New York.

Smile singer Lily wore a floral dress with pink and sheer detailing around the collar while David looked smart in a black shirt and jacket.

A day after their first outing, the pair were photographed kissing at a basketball game in Madison Square Garden.

The pair locked lips as they were sat court-side as the New York Knicks took on the New Orleans Pelicans.

October 2019 was a big month for the pair as they showed off the new romance to the world.

In the same month David made his romance with Lily Instagram official as he shared a snap of the pair enjoying a day at Disney's Magic Kingdom in Florida.

The mirror selfie shows Lily's face turned away from the camera as she wore a purple princess gown while David posed in a cape.

He captioned the image with: "The prince, princess and the parking lot. That seven dwarves mine ride is the best one in the whole damn park. Go on, fight me. #magic #disney #rulebreakers".

Engagement rumours

The pair had only been official for a month when they sparked rumour they were engaged.

Not Fair singer Lily was spotted wearing a ring on her wedding finger in various outings from November 2019 onwards.

However, the pair never addressed the rumours.

Wedding day

Despite rumours swirling that Brokeback Mountain actor David had popped the question to Lily for months, it came as a huge surprise when the pair announced they had married.

In September 2020, the loved-up pair tied the knot in an intimate ceremony at Graceland Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Lily and David exchanged vows in a ceremony officiated by an Elvis Presley impersonator and celebrated with a meal at In-N-Out burger.

Smile singer Lily's daughters Ethel, 11, and nine-year-old Marnie also acted as bridesmaids for the couple.

The newlyweds shared the news as he posted a series pf snaps from their big day – which showed Lily in a white shift dress and veil and David in a navy suit.

Writing in the caption David announced: "In a wedding officiated by the king himself, the people's princess wed her devoted, low born, but kind credit card holder in a beautiful ceremony lit by the ashen skies courtesy of a burning state miles away in the midst of a global pandemic".

Baby plans

Mum-of-two Lily, who shares her daughters with her ex Sam Cooper, opened up on hopes to have more children someday after her wedding to David.

Speaking to The Sunday Times in October 2020, Lily was quizzed about becoming a mum again.

"I think so. Especially now Marnie's getting so big," she said. "It's like, 'No, my babies!'"

But, Lily revealed she's in no rush to get pregnant anytime soon as she said: "I'm in a really good place. I don't know if I'd mess with my hormones, at this particular point."

Married life

Since tying the knot in a Las Vegas ceremony two years ago, the couple continue to enjoy married life together.

David gushed about his wife to People in December 2020 as he said: "I married a beautiful, incredible woman who I love.

"I have never met someone who is so deeply kind as her. I've never felt so taken care of and cared for by another human being. She really is just a deeply kind individual and I love that about her."

And, earlier this year, Lily and her two daughter supported David at the Stranger Things season four premiere as the family were pictured together on the red carpet.
