David Ginola and Les Ferdinand agree on what Newcastle supporters did as 'history' claim made

Former Newcastle United stars David Ginola and Les Ferdinand have hailed the club's supporters after the Magpies lost the Carabao Cup Final.

Two first-half goals for Manchester United saw them run out 2-0 victors thanks to midfielder Casemiro and a Sven Botman deflection on a Marcus Rashford shot that took his effort over Loris Karius.

Despite second-half changes by Eddie Howe, the Magpies couldn't unlock Erik ten Hag's side, but the supporters were still in full voice following the full-time whistle, something quickly picked up by the pair who are all too familiar with the great Newcastle fanbase.

"That doesn't surprise me," Ferdinand said after the game when asked about the fans singing until the last second and waving the flags despite losing. "I was here when we were humiliated by Manchester United in the Charity Shield and they stayed behind then and clapped us off when we didn't deserve it.

"To see them still here now, congratulating the team, it really doesn't surprise me at all."

Ginola added; "It's because they know that with their new investors, this is something that could happen every year. This is just the beginning.

"I mean, this year, they're fifth in the table, they've reached the final of the Carabao Cup and it sounds good. This could the start of building something great, building their history again."
