David de Gea tells Manchester United to 'be careful' with Jadon Sancho and Anthony Elanga

David de Gea has admitted he is happy to see Jadon Sancho and Anthony Elanga in contention to win the Manchester United Player of the Month award for February.

The duo enjoyed a highly productive month, scoring four goals and grabbing two assists between them, thriving out wide for United. Sancho scored against Middlesbrough and Southampton and claimed two assists in the 4-2 triumph over Leeds, while Elanga netted against Leeds and in the Wanda Metropolitano against Atletico Madrid.

Both players have gone from strength-to-strength in recent weeks under Ralf Rangnick. Sancho, after a slow start to life at Old Trafford, showed signs of encouragement throughout February and has made the left-flank his own in recent weeks.

Alongside centre-back Raphael Varane, who helped United earn two clean sheets last month, the duo are in the running for the in-house Player of the Month gong. And De Gea — who has scooped the award in each of the last three months — is pleased to see Elanga and Sancho as the leading contenders to land the fan-voted award.

"I'm happy for both [of them]," De Gea told United's club website. "They are still very, very young.

"I think they are doing well and helping the team a lot but they are still young people, young players, and we have to be careful to give them some space. They are still very young.

"I don't know who is going to win. They both deserve it so let the fans decide."

According to the United website, Elanga and Sancho have pulled clear of Varane in the battle to land the award. However, it is currently neck and neck between the pair of them. You can cast your vote by clicking here.
