David De Gea sends Arsenal thinly-veiled dig ahead of crucial Man United Premier League clash

Arsenal take on Manchester United on Sunday afternoon in a huge Premier League clash at the top of the table.

The Gunners currently lead the league, sitting five points above second-placed Manchester City despite playing one less game so far this term. City have the chance to close that gap to just two points this afternoon (Sunday) when they take on Wolves before Arsenal welcome United to the Emirates Stadium a few hours later.

The Red Devils have enjoyed a resurgence of their own under new coach Erik ten Hag, who had helped his side to fourth in the current standings, eight points behind Mikel Arteta and Co, although they have also played one more match than the north Londoners.

Now, United goalkeeper David De Gea has spoken about a potential new rivalry between Arteta and Ten Hag whilst forgetting legendary Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger's name in the process.

"I hope so," said De Gea when asked if the old feud between Sir Alex Ferguson and Wenger could be revived by the two club's current head coaches. "We’re talking about one of the best managers in history, Sir Alex, and the guy from Arsenal.

"It's different eras, different football, football has changed a bit, but let’s see. Both managers are really good now, they’re playing well and it’s going to be a nice game."

The Spaniard may very well have innocently forgotten Wenger's name but considering he faced Arsenal 14 times under the Frenchman's stewardship that seems somewhat unlikely, potentially playing some mind games ahead of the highly-anticipated match at the Emirates.

"Both teams have always been massive clubs, great teams, always playing to win trophies", he added.

"So, it’s nice to play now when both teams are in a good shape and playing well. It’s going to be a massive game.

"We want to win and we will go to London to try to beat them. Everyone knows how big the game on Sunday is, especially as we are there fighting for the top places."
