Manchester United have not made a decision on goalkeeper David de Gea's future, according to Erik Ten Hag.
De Gea, who clocked up his 500th United appearance at the weekend, is out of contract at the end of this season. United have an option to extend De Gea's contract by another year, but Ten Hag was vague when asked about the club's option on the 31-year-old Spaniard.
“We didn’t make a decision on him, but what I can say is that I am really happy with David De Gea as a keeper,” said Ten Hag.
“His first two performances of the season were not his best performances, but after you see he brings us a lot for the defence department, gives stability and as a person I like him.
“I can really cooperate with him really well but first we go to the winter and then we will talk about how we deal with the situations.”
De Gea is one of 12 United players out of contract at the end of this season, but who also have a one-year extension option, including Ronaldo.
Ten Hag also admitted his United side are still nowhere near good enough for his liking.
United host Tottenham at Old Trafford tonight, with Ten Hag having warned his players - who are currently fifth - they still have to do better. Ten Hag, whose United side currently trail Premier League leaders Arsenal by nine points, said: "I'm a person who is never satisfied.
"I'm happy to be here, but I'm not satisfied with where we are. But I also know that I'm impatient. I think good is not good enough. We have to do better. I see many things that can go better. But I also see improvement, so when we keep going with this progress we'll improve more and I will be even happier."
Ten Hag defended his stars after United were charged by the FA for failing to control their players, who surrounded ref Craig Pawson for disallowing a Cristiano Ronaldo goal in a 0-0 draw with Newcastle.
"I want to express that we have always accepted the referee's decisions," said Ten Hag. "My view is that quickly you have to accept the ref's decision, there is VAR, you accept it and move on.
"I must say, I don't think it was too strong. It wasn't really aggressive, but I didn't know what was happening exactly on the pitch, because I was too far away.
"I've seen it back on the video. There was a touch from the Newcastle player, that was quite clear, and they went to go to the ref to ask about it."
