David de Gea provides update on Manchester United future

David de Gea has suggested he wants to remain at Manchester United past the expiration of his current contract.

It's now over a decade since De Gea first arrived in Manchester in a £18.9million move from Atletico Madrid and he has gone on to become a United great in the years since.

While there have been troughs in his form there have also been plenty of periods in the barren nine years since United last won the Premier League in which he's been his side's only bright spark and he has won the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award on four occasions.

The Spaniard's current contract expires in 2023, though there is an option for that to be extended for a further 12 months, but he has suggested he would like to finish his career at Old Trafford.

"I like the fact I was born in Madrid, but at the end of the day, it's just a city," De Gea told UEFA ahead of returning to his hometown to face his former club in the Champions League last-16 on Wednesday.

"Now I feel as if I'm from Manchester; I just feel like anyone else from Manchester.

"Where you are loved and welcomed is your home. I've been here for many years and, obviously, anything can happen in life, in the world of football, but honestly, I don't see myself away from Manchester United.

"Of course, I'm going back home [for this tie], I'm going back to the club that gave me the opportunity to be who I am today. But this is just another match. Everyone wants to play well, we want to win, it is a Champions League match.

"Obviously, I wish Atletico all the best, but I don't know whether the fact we're playing them is a good or bad omen. Everyone is going there to win, especially me."
