David de Gea posts second cryptic tweet as Manchester United contract uncertainty continues

David de Gea posted a second cryptic tweet on Thursday afternoon as speculation continues to grow over his Manchester United future.

De Gea became a free agent last week after his contract expired, with lengthy discussions over a new deal yet to reach a conclusion. United have been open to keeping the 32-year-old at the club but want to reduce his £375,000-per-week wages.

As the June 30 deadline closed in, those talks were looking increasingly bleak with figures inside the club keen to 'move on' from the Spaniard and call time on his 12-year spell at the club. Some reports even suggested a contract had been signed by De Gea, only to be taken off the table.

Exclusive: United open to signing two goalkeepers

Speculation has continued to surround De Gea, however, and last week he tweeted a yawning emoji, hinting at his feelings about the situation. And on Thursday, the veteran shot-stopper tweeted another emoji, this time of someone juggling.

United's goalkeeping situation has at times resembled a circus, with all three senior goalkeepers either leaving or wanting to leave. As well as De Gea, Dean Henderson remains convinced he will join Nottingham Forest permanently, while Tom Heaton also wants to find more regular minutes elsewhere.

Despite no longer being at the club, speculation continues regarding the goalkeeper's future with the door still open for his return, especially given United's concerns over Financial Fair Play. Erik ten Hag is keen to bring in a first-choice goalkeeper who can play out from the back, but Andre Onana will likely cost around £50million.

United spent around half of their initial transfer budget on Mason Mount, who was confirmed as a Reds player on Wednesday after a £60million fee was agreed with Chelsea. £55million of that will be paid upfront, essentially halving Ten Hag's transfer kitty.

Such is the uncertainty surrounding their current options, United are open to signing two goalkeepers this summer, although that will almost certainly rely on funds being raised through player sales.
