David de Gea makes confident admission about Manchester United's 'difficult' season

David de Gea has reflected on Manchester United's season with mixed emotions ahead of the final day of the campaign. United play Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Sunday afternoon in their final fixture of the Premier League season.

It has been a bleak campaign for United with few positives, but De Gea's brilliant performances in between the sticks have been worthy of praise. Although De Gea's future at Old Trafford was uncertain in the summer, he's now finishing the season as United's most consistent and standout performer.

De Gea has often single-handedly won United points this term with world-class saves. The 31-year-old has made the No.1 spot his own again with outstanding displays while his teammates have disappointed.

De Gea has now reflected on United's difficult season and it's clear he'll remember the campaign with mixed emotions. "We all know it's been a tough season for us," De Gea told United's in-house media.

"But for myself, I'm very proud of my season, to be honest. I worked really hard in the summer to come here, to be ready to play, to show my qualities and to try to help the team and I think I did very well, the best and good as I can.

"I think I played very consistent this season and I helped the team a lot, so I'm happy with my performance. Maybe it's one of my best seasons. I've had very good seasons before but I think it's been a very good one.

"I was feeling very good and very strong in goal, so it's been a very good season for me, but difficult for the team, for sure."

De Gea is contracted at the club until the summer of 2023.
