David de Gea insists Man United should be fighting for ‘more things’ than Premier League top four

David de Gea insists Man United have the quality to achieve far more than just top four football after their nervy 2-0 win over Brighton.

The victory at Old Trafford brought an end to a run of frustrating draws, but it was only sealed with the last kick of the game when Bruno Fernandes put the result beyond doubt.

It lifts United into fourth in the Premier League table and while De Gea was relieved to get back to winning ways, he revealed his frustrations that the team are not able to have loftier ambitions.

“We should be fighting for more things than the top four, but that is the reality,” De Gea said.

“There are many teams fighting for the same position and with the quality we have we should win a lot of points.

“It is great always when you have the three points especially after we draw the last few games. We are all very happy.

“We knew that Brighton is one of the teams that play very well with the ball, press very good and for me it is a very good team. We started the second half better, we scored the goal, they went a man down but a big three points and the performance was there.”

United were lucky to go into the break level, and had De Gea to thank for that after he made a stunning save to keep a Jakub Moder header out.

The Spaniard was particularly satisfied with his efforts to deny the Brighton man.

“It was a great save to be honest, a very difficult one,” De Gea said.

“In that moment it was a big save because we kept a clean sheet.
