David de Gea and Andre Onana each post cryptic updates amid Man Utd goalkeeper confusion

David de Gea has confused Manchester United fans with a cryptic update on his future - almost a week since his contract expired.

De Gea, 32, officially departed Old Trafford last Friday upon the expiry of his contract. United were initially keen to tie him down to a new deal and an agreement was found on fresh terms on reduced wages.

The Spaniard had put pen to paper on a new contract, only to see the Red Devils retract that offer. A new agreement has not yet been found, leading to the goalkeeper's departure amid links to Saudi Arabia.

However, six days on following his exit, De Gea posted an update on his future - something which led to such confusion from the United supporters. On Thursday afternoon, De Gea tweeted an emoji of a man juggling, suggesting that he has many options to choose from this summer.

Al-Nassr are one of the clubs reportedly considering a move for De Gea. The Saudi Arabian club finished second last season, five points behind Al-Ittihad and have Cristiano Ronaldo in their armoury.

De Gea has also been linked with a return to Spain - 12 years since leaving Atletico Madrid. The Spanish shot-stopper made 84 appearances for Atletico before securing a big-money move to United in 2011.

During his time at the Red Devils, De Gea has been a fantastic servant, winning the Premier League, Europa League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup, playing more than 500 matches in the process.

Should De Gea not sign a new contract, United have been looking at alternatives as Ten Hag tries to add a new No.1 to his ranks. Andre Onana has emerged as their priority target, having impressed for Inter Milan last season.

But like De Gea, Onana has also been posting cryptic updates on social media. The 27-year-old appeared to hint he is moving closer to agreeing a big-money switch to Old Trafford.

Earlier on Thursday, he shared a picture on Instagram of a man's feet, one in a sandal and the other in a designer shoe, alongside the caption: "Every life has a story, and every story has an end… never fool anyone".

United have already seen one bid knocked back for Onana, who impressed for Inter in the Champions League final against Manchester City last month. Inter reportedly rejected United's opening offer of around £35m, and are waiting out for a bid in the region of £60m.

There may have to be a compromise on a deal for Onana, however, given that United have already spent half of their £120m transfer budget this summer. Mason Mount arrived in a £60m move from Chelsea on Wednesday, with more signings set to follow before the end of the window.
