David Bowie 'to be brought back to life' in avatar show after ABBA Voyage success

David Bowie fans will be able to relive the music icon’s Golden Years if a virtual-reality experience gets the green light.

Talks are currently taking place into an avatar adventure exploring the Starman’s musical journey.

It is thought to have been inspired by ABBA’s ground-breaking Voyage residency, which uses avatars to depict the group as they appeared in the 1970s.

A source said: “The idea of being able to recreate David’s charisma and electric showmanship for an audience is an intoxicating one, and the prospect of how that might be done is being explored. It’s a very exciting time.”

Brett Morgen, who directed 2022 Bowie film Moonage Daydream, also suggested a new show featuring the Heroes star, who died in 2016 aged 69, could be on the cards.

He said: “Voyage was one of the greatest cinematic experiences I have ever seen. Could there be a Bowie one? I think there may be some interesting things happening ahead.”

This week, it was revealed that more than 8,000 of David’s personal items will go on display in 2025.

The collection, acquired by the Victoria & Albert Museum, includes the star’s iconic Ziggy Stardust striped suit, as well as hand-written lyrics, musical instruments and more than 70,000 photographs.
