David Bowie's daughter Lexi Jones had some choice words for those looking to compare her to her music icon dad following the release of her debut album.
The Rebel Rebel hit-maker’s only daughter - real name Alexandria Zahra Jones - dropped her collection of tracks titled Xandri earlier this month.
Xandri is a Greek word meaning “defender of mankind” and the record includes the tracks Through All The Time, Moving On and Standing Alone.
Her mother is supermodel Iman, 69, who was Bowie’s second wife and married to him from from 1992 until his death from pancreatic cancer in 2016.
Taking to Instagram, Jones shared a candid poem in which she admitted to feeling pressure to live up her father’s music legacy.
She wrote: “David Bowie's Daughter, that gets your attention, ay?”
“I'm the daughter of a legend, but I'm more than just his name. They see the blood, they hear the sound, yet fail to see me, don't feel the same.
“They compare me to his heights, like I'm supposed to reach his light. But I'm not here to chase what's already been done. By loving what I do, I feel I've already won.”
Insiting to her followers that she is “not a copy” and “not a shadow” of her Ziggy Stardust relative, she emphasised: “I'm not trying to fill his shoes. I'm just trying to find my own peace.”
She posted exclusive snippets of her songs alongside never-before-seen videos of her childhood - including a heart-warming clip of her and David.
In the lead-up to her album’s release, Jones shared exclusive snippets of her songs alongside never-before-seen videos from her childhood, including one that showed her singing with Bowie when she was a child.
Upon listening, fans online remarked that she resembled her dad’s voice in her new music.
“The apple certainly hasn't fallen far from the tree!” agreed another.
Her post clearly striked a cord with others who have sought to emerge from their parents’ shadows, including actress Liv Tyler, the daughter of Aerosmith ’s Steven Tyler, and singer Violet Grohl, the daughter of Foo Fighters’ David Grohl - who both liked the post.
