David Beckham was overcome with emotion and “shed a tear” as he delivered a speech at son Brooklyn’s wedding, according to reports.

The football hero, 46, served as Master of Ceremonies at the lavish bash on Saturday in Palm Beach, Florida.

Addressing the star-studded guests including Hollywood actress Eva Longoria and Tennis superstar Serena Williams, Beckham reportedly praised his new daughter-in-law Nicola Peltz as “incredible”.

It was claimed the proud dad-of-four faltered however when recalling the moment his first-born child was born.

“David’s speech went on for about five minutes and he looked to shed a tear at one point. He was talking about when Brooklyn was born and how he wanted to protect him,” a source told The Sun.

“He said he was sleeping on the hospital floor, holding the door shut because he didn’t want to let anyone get in. David got a lump in his throat and had to stop and take a breather to regain his composure, but it was a very sweet speech.”

The ex-England captain pulled out all the stops for his wedding gift, surprising the couple with a $500k vintage Jaguar.

Brooklyn’s mum Victoria Beckham, 47, later paid her own tribute to the happy couple on social media.

The former Spice Girl-turned-fashion designer shared an image on Instagram of her and David dressed in their finest for the big event.

She captioned the post: “Proud mum and dad. Congratulations Mr & Mrs Beckham.”

Despite media focus on the cost of the nuptials which is believed to have been in the region of £3m, the newlyweds used their big day to shine a light on the crisis in the Ukraine.

They partnered with humanitarian agency Care with guests encouraged to contribute to the efforts by the agency to support and provide aid for women, girls, families and the elderly in the war-torn country, according to Vogue.

Peltz’s billionaire father Nelson and wife Claudia reportedly made a significant contribution to the cause.
