David Beckham's demand for "changes" at Man Utd as he's 'open to talks' to buy club

David Beckham has already outlined what changes he believes Manchester United should make amid reports he is open to talks with potential buyers of the club.

The United icon is not in a financial position to buy the club outright after the Glazer family put United up for sale. Mirror Football understands the Glazer family is looking for as much as £8billion to sell arguably the biggest team in world football.

However, the former midfielder could form part of an investment consortium, which aims to buy out the American family – who have been at the helm of United since 2005 and are hugely unpopular with the club's fanbase due to the nosedive in standards on and off the pitch.

Beckham is a lifelong United fan and made 394 first-team appearances for the club across a decade-long career, scoring 85 goals. He is the current president and co-owner of MLS club Inter Miami and co-owner of Salford City.

The former midfielder earlier this year opened up on what needed to change at United, ahead of the appointment of Erik ten Hag in May, following a disastrous campaign.

Beckham told Sky Sports in May: "I think there are changes to be made and changes that are happening, we've seen that. It's been a tough end to the season. But it is the end of the season, I'm sure a lot of the fans are thankful for that because it's been a tough one – full of ups and downs.

"The players have done what they can do best, so has the manager as well. I turned up at the stadium a few months back and every seat was filled so the fans still believe, they support, they turn up for the team.

"It's what United fans do. There's not many other teams to have gone through what they've gone through in the last few years and still filling out their stadium. So that says a lot about the fans. There will be changes."

The Manchester United Supporters' Trust has already demanded that any new owner prioritise the needs of the club and not focus on their own financial position. It is likely that any consortium involving former club players and supporters would appeal to the Old Trafford fanbase.

The supporters' trust said: "Over the last 17 years Manchester United fans have been dismayed with the ownership of the club. Over that period we have witnessed a decline on the playing side and a decline in our stadium.

"Whilst supporters have long called for change, of course, this has to be the right change. At this moment in time, our club needs new investment more than ever. That requires new ownership. Any prospective new owner or investor has to be committed to the culture, ethos and best traditions of the club.

"They have to be willing to invest to restore United to former glories, and that investment must be real new money spent on the playing side and the stadium. Finally, any new ownership structure must embed supporters, including a degree of fan share ownership, in their operating model.

"Manchester United's fans are its greatest asset and hold the key to unlocking the true value of any football club. That relationship has to be one of the equals – sharing in ownership and unified with the same goals."
