David Beckham makes space to complete Luis Suarez transfer for Inter Miami

David Beckham and Inter Miami have received a boost ahead of a possible summer move for Luis Suarez.

The Uruguayan is on the radar of the MLS side with his Atletico Madrid contract expiring in the summer.

Before they can pursue a move however they must first offload key personnel in Florida.

Sporting director Chris Henderson remained coy on Monday when discussing the future of Blaise Matuidi and claimed talks with his agent remain on-going.

However the former PSG and Juventus man is expected to depart in the summer, according to the Sun.

That would free up space for Inter Miami to table an offer to Suarez.

In the MLS clubs can only have three top earners - known as Designated Players (DP's).

Matuidi moves from Juventus back in 2020 but has been largely underwhelming as Phil Neville's side struggled to make an impact.

Beckham and co will be seeking greater improvements next season and the arrival of Suarez would strengthen their hand.

The Uruguayan is set to seek pastures after spending two years at the Wanda Metropolitano.

Suarez has enjoyed huge success in Europe with Ajax, Liverpool, Barcelona and now the current Spanish champions.

He recently declared a move across the Atlantic a "very good option" whilst also discussing a return to South America.

Speaking to ESPN , via Spanish outlet AS, he said: "If I return to any team from South America at 36 or 37 years of age, people will expect me to play like I did in my late twenties," he explained.

"So if I can’t play at the highest level, I rather avoid unnecessary criticism if I don’t run enough or can’t score the same amount of goals as I did in Europe.

"So I want to play somewhere I am happy and comfortable. Also I want to play in a league where I can still perform and keep enjoying playing soccer.

"So I don’t think I will return to South America, but the United States or Asia are very good options when I turn 37."

In May, Suarez also told Club Del Deportista magazine : "I would like to play in the United States, but you never know."

Gonzalo Higuain, formerly of Real Madrid and Juventus, is among Inter Miami's DPs whilst Ryan Shawcross is also on the club's books.

Higuain has confessed that the MLS took him by surprise having arrived with minimal expectations.

He said on Christian Vieri's Twitch channel Bobo TV : "I thought I would come here and play with a cigarette in my mouth and, instead, it is difficult.

"It is a tough league. I learned that it is similar to Italian football."
