Football legend David Beckham and NFL icon Peyton Manning threw around an American football - and the former quarterback was impressed by the ex England captain’s throwing ability.
Ahead of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, Beckham - an ambassador for the controversial tournament - hung out with Manning as they each had a crack at the other’s respective sport. The two legendary athletes shared the field to shoot a Frito-Lays World Cup advert and enjoyed some down time between filming.
They took part in a game of catch during on break, with Manning asking if he’d have to teach Beckham how to throw a pigskin. However, it quickly became clear the former Manchester United and Real Madrid star was well-versed.
From around 30 yards, Beckham managed to complete the pass to Manning even though the ball was wobbling in the air. The Sheriff grew increasingly pleased with what he was seeing from the Englishman.
“That's good!” Manning declared. “Good grip! I like the high release!”
While Beckham’s spiral wasn’t exactly pretty or clean, Manning wittily noted he struggled with the same problem across his iconic career, joking: "That's okay, I invented the wobbly pass!" However, as long as the ball got to where it needed to go, it mattered little.
Manning also said he was impressed by Beckham's receiving skills and complimented the 47-year-old's soft hands. When they decided to swap sports, Manning seemed far more disinterested as he held the spherical football in his hand.
“I can’t do his sport,” Manning added.
Manning is considered one of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history. He played 18 seasons - 14 with the Indianapolis Colts and four as a member of the Denver Broncos - and won two Super Bowl titles.
The 46-year-old enjoyed an epic rivalry with Tom Brady, with Manning winning five MVP awards across his career - the most by any player in NFL history. He is currently third in career passing yards and passing touchdowns, while he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2021.
