David Beckham has already given verdict on Lionel Messi transfer to Inter Miami

Lionel Messi is currently enjoying his best spell of form since joining PSG last summer, with 11 goals and 13 assists so far this season in just 16 games played in all competitions.

Despite this, he may choose to take his skills away from Paris after the World Cup, with David Beckham reported to be keen make a move which could reunite the Argentine with his friend and former teammate Luis Suarez at Inter Miami in Florida. As reported by The Athletic, the MLS side are leading the race to sign Messi, with PSG yet to offer a new contract and former club Barcelona interested.

The reports state that Messi has been in contact with the franchise owned by Beckham for a couple of years, with the legendary forward having previously expressed a desire to play in the MLS. He already owns a property in Miami and this could be a strong motivating factor.

Manchester United legend Beckham has already spoken on the issue, explaining his position and revealing that he wants to bring the best players to the club which finished sixth in the Eastern Conference this year before losing 3-0 to New York City FC in the first round of the playoffs.

"I've always said I want the best players in our club and playing in our shirt because there's a certain expectation," Beckham explained back in February to the Miami Herald. "Unfortunately, sometimes it can be a bad thing. But most of the time it's a good thing.

"When I first started this project, people were saying, 'This guy is coming, that guy is coming, [Cristiano] Ronaldo is coming, Messi's coming'. At the end of the day, we need to win, whether it's with the young kids or stars.

"Our fans will be happy if we have stars on the team, but they'll be even happier if they're seeing young players coming through our academy and lifting the MLS Cup."

Messi will be eligible to discuss terms following the World Cup, with his contract up in Paris next summer. This means that any transfer could see him moving across the Atlantic next summer with PSG unlikely to allow a transfer mid season for one of their biggest stars.
