David Beckham explains why Chelsea should make Kylian Mbappe transfer with 'exciting' verdict

Former England and Manchester United star David Beckham has claimed that Kylian Mbappe is his current favourite player in world football, labelling the forward as "exciting". It comes after the Paris Saint-Germain striker continues to be linked with a switch away, including a surprise move to Chelsea.

It comes as the Blues continue their rebuild under new owners Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital, where there has been a shift in policy to signing youngsters to develop. At 23-years-old, the France international certainly fits in that threshold, offering plenty of quality now and more promise for the future.

When asked about working with youngsters, new boss Graham Potter said: "I don’t know whether I prefer it, I think I like it, absolutely, and I think it’s important to have players that understand the club. But ultimately if I’m being honest, it’s just the right people and the right attitude and players that want to improve and players that want to have ambition and take the club and their own career forward. And that’s what we want really."

It remains to be seen if Mbappe would be open to making the switch to west London, should he look to leave PSG so soon after signing his new deal. However, Beckham has outlined all the reasons why the Blues should go all in to sign the forward if he is available.

He told Sportbible: "It's hard to actually pick a favourite player of mine these days. I like Mbappe, I think he's an exciting player. He's a player that obviously has already won the World Cup and done so much in his career but I think he's got so much left."

It's that experience of winning at such a young age and still being far from his prime that could make him an ideal transfer target for the club to lay their mark. However, it remains to be seen if he will be available or if he would even fit the side under Potter.
