A Netflix documentary centred on the life of Manchester United and England legend David Beckham is in the works, the streaming giant has confirmed.
Beckham, 47, will be interviewed as part of an eye-opening series which focusses on his modest childhood in East London and what motivated his rise to superstardom. The documentary will also feature previously-unseen personal archive footage spanning the last 40 years, as well as input from the icon's family, friends and others who have helped shape his successful career in football and away from the Beautiful Game.
The series - which does not yet have a title nor a release date - will be directed and executively produced by Fisher Stevens and produced by another Academy Award winner in John Battsek. Beckham's television company, Studio 99, will produce the series in association with Ventureland.
In a joint Instagram post with Netflix on Wednesday afternoon, the former Three Lions captain wrote: "I' m excited to confirm that I am partnering with @Netflix on a documentary series about my life and career. The series will feature unseen archive, untold stories as well as interviews with the people who have been a part of my journey.
"The series is directed and produced by Academy Award winners @fisherstevens and John Battsek. Watch this space… @studio99." Beckham accompanied the post with a picture of him in a United shirt, one as a child and one from the present day, showing fans what they can expect from the documentary.
The former Tottenham academy prospect is said to have been inspired to pursue a documentary about himself after being captivated by 'The Last Dance', a 10-episode production charting the upbringing and NBA career of basketball legend Michael Jordan.
