David and Victoria Beckham's wedding vs Brooklyn and Nicola - who did it better?

Brooklyn Beckham was the talk of the town over the weekend after tying the knot with Nicola Peltz.

The young couple wed in an extravagant ceremony, which took place at Nicola's family estate in Miami, Florida, in front of a star-studded guest list filled with A-Listers.

Brooklyn, 23, said 'I Do' to his billionaire heiress wife Nicola, 27, in front of their closest family and friends, as well as celebrities like Gordon Ramsay, Eva Longoria, Serena and Venus Williams and Victoria's former bandmates Mel C and Mel B.

Lavish weddings must run in the Beckham family, as David and Victoria tied the knot in front of a celebrity crowd during a lavish ceremony to show off their wealth, writes the Mirror.

Here’s a look back at both Beckham’s weddings… with both likely to still be talked about for a fair few years to come.

The bride’s dresses

On Saturday night, Nicola looked beautiful in white as she walked down the aisle in a stunning custom made dress from the Italian fashion house Valentino.

The young bride’s dress included long-sleeved lace gloves, a dramatic train, a cascading vail, and is believed to have cost an astonishing £250,000.

In contrast, the American star’s new mother-in-law Victoria opted for a champagne coloured strapless dress for her own big day back in 1999.

Posh Spice also went for a top designer too, with her billowing princess skirted, strapless dress being from the designer Vera Wang and attached to a price tag go £75,000.

The groomsmen

In perhaps a tribute to his Essex roots, David opted for a white suit on his wedding day as he posed for photos and swapped vows with Spice Girl Victoria.

The football star had his blonde hair greasily styled and added a touch of colour to his white outfit by attaching some dried flowers to the lapel of his jacket – with his outfit from English designer Timothy Everett.

For his own wedding day, Brooklyn looked sharp in a Dior suit that was designed by British fashion designer Kim Jones who is currently artistic director of the French fashion house.

The celebrity offspring added a bit of bling to his outfit by adding a diamond chain by Anita Ko to his suit jacket – with the jewels said to be a gift from his billionaire in-laws.

While David and Victoria were obviously at both their own wedding and that of their eldest son, Brooklyn was also at both weddings – and was photographed on dad David’s arm on the big day 23 years earlier.

Wedding reception style

Victoria and David’s wedding was something of a garish affair overall – with the duo having a Robin Hood themed wedding and reception.

Following their nuptials, the pair changed into bright, purple-coloured outfits – with Victoria sporting an off-shoulder dress by Antonio featuring a dramatic flower design across one shoulder, and with Dave in a matching-coloured suit by the same designer.

Baby Brooklyn didn’t escape the humiliation either, as he too got forced into the Quality Street coloured outfit and the parents also popped a hat on his head.

Once all grown up and married himself, the part-time chef and his new wife stayed in their wedding wear, but the following day were more casually dressed for the second day of celebrations with Brooklyn in a pair of slack chinos and a white top, and Nicola sporting a short white mini-dress and heels.

Wedding venues

With Nicola’s businessman father, Nelson Peltz, worth a reported £1.3 billion, he offered one of his many homes too his daughter and his now son-in-law to host their extravagant wedding.

The pair swapped vows and partied away at a £76million oceanfront mansion in Miami and added three giant marquees to host all the guests and celebrations.

David and Victoria’s wedding was held at Luttrellstown Castle, near Dublin with a team of wedding planners helping transform the grounds into a fairy grotto with woodland flowers and ivy.

A marquee was also erected for guests at the late ‘90s wedding to party in – but there was only one.

Cakes and decor

Brooklyn and Nicola’s wedding day reportedly cost £3million – which might be small change for the Peltz family who are worth more than one billion pounds, or even for the Beckham’s whose own family wealth is said to be around £360 million.

With money no object, it is clear the happy couple could afford to create a truly stylish and tasteful event – complete with vintage candelabras and floral arrangements filled with roses, peonies, ranunculus and hydrangea and white roses – while their wedding cake was a classic, six-tiered treat.

Victoria and David’s wedding day, in contrast, was a bit... novelty.

They had a Robin Hood’s forest theme and had matching velvet thrones – while colour schemes included greens, purples and Burgundy fabrics creating something of an eyesore.

The paid also had a giant wedding cake designed to include apples and ivy and they used a sword to cut it in front of stunned guests.

A-List guests

David and Victoria may have drifted slightly from the spotlight in recent years now that he is no longer a professional sportsman and after she hung up her Spice Girls microphone and became distracted trying to run her failing fashion business – but they were peak British celebs in the 1990s.

As a result, their big day attracted a number of sporting icons and chart superstars – with Manchester United’s Gary Neville acting as David’s best man on the day, and all four of Vicky’s Spice Girls bandmates in attendance.

Brooklyn and Nicola’s wedding also pulled in an A-Lit crowd with American actress Eva Longoria, celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay and tennis icons Venus and Serena Williams among the guests.

While Mel B and Mel C both rocked up to support the first Spice Baby to get married – Geri Horner and Emma Bunton bailed on the nuptials, with the former flying to Australia with her husband, and the latter opting to stay at home in the UK.

The magazine shoots

With so much thought and planning going into both weddings, it’s perhaps unsurprising that both couples wanted the world to see everything in the best possible light – and both landed magazine deals in order to grant fans access to the respective big days.

While Brooklyn and Nicola landed a deal with fashion bible Vogue to have their snaps splashed all over a front cover.

Reports over the weekend suggested the pics will appear in the June issue of the magazine – covering both the UK and USA versions of the monthly glossy.
