Former Rangers coach Dave Vos has talked up his reunion with Calvin Bassey at Ajax as he opened up on his role in the defender's move to the Eredivise.
The coach has returned to the Amsterdam club as manager of Jong Ajax after he left the Scottish Premiership alongside countryman Giovanni van Bronckhorst last year, having previously worked as a youth coach at the Dutch giants before making the move to Govan. He guided his the Ajax youngsters to a win this week in his first game in charge in the Dutch second division against MVV Maastricht and was thrilled to renew acquaintances with Bassey again.
Ajax splashed out £19 million to land the giant defender last summer and he has received a mixed reception in the Netherlands following his move. However, Vos is delighted to be back and working with the 23-year-old stating: "I clicked really well with Calvin. We have been through a lot together.
"I helped him with his initial transition from Scotland to the Netherlands. I spoke to him a lot back then, because he was very curious.
"He is a very open boy who likes to learn. When I came back here and he came in, I saw his beautiful big smile. It was great to see him again. It's great for me to return to the club and I was happy to get a win in my first game this week."
