Dave Myers issues cancer update as Hairy Biker pal Si King dubs him a 'fighter'

Dave Myers has said his cancer is 'going the right way' after a year's worth of gruelling chemotherapy compiling of '30 lots'. The 65-year-old, who formed the Hairy Bikers with Geordie pal Si King, revealed his terrifying diagnosis last May, but has not specified the kind of cancer he has.

Speaking to The Times in a recent interview, he updated his fans and followers of his journey battling the disease, citing although it's a 'work in progress' things are looking up. He said: "I’m doing all right. It’s a work in progress. We’ve had some hard years but this one’s been… I’ve had 30 lots of chemo, spread over three weeks and then a week off. It’s going the right way."

He also added that doctors anticipate that they may be able to turn the last bit of cancer 'off with radiotherapy'. Dave, added: "So that’s five sessions every other week and then I go film in Scotland for two weeks, then go back on chemo, but that’ll be twice a month."

The Mirror reports that Dave and Si are due to film a brand-new BBC Two series in The Hairy Bikers Go West - which will see them journey to Devon from Scotland across eight episodes. Si, 56, said that it is 'very difficult' to verbalise his distress when detailing his friend's condition.

He said: "There’s a sense of loss, but there’s also that sense of hope, you know, knowing my mate as I do. He’s a scrapper. He’s a fighter. But there were certain points that I thought, ‘Where’s it going to go? What is happening to my friend?'"

Myers also said that during his treatment, there have been times where he is too ill to walk, unable to ride his beloved motorcycle due to stability issues, and his hair and eyelashes falling out. Always looking positive though, he said his 'hair's better than it was before chemo' as he has started travelling again.
