Dave Matthews has announced that he will no longer be performing at two major events this week due to a critical illness in the family. The events in question are FireAid, a benefit concert organized for Los Angeles-area wildfire relief, and the MusiCares Person of the Year benefit gala.
FireAid, a star-studded concert aimed at raising funds for those affected by the fires, was set to feature Matthews alongside John Mayer at the Kia Forum. All proceeds from FireAid will go towards supporting individuals impacted by the wildfires. A 501(c)(3) has been established for FireAid, with the Annenberg Foundation overseeing the distribution of contributions through a dedicated committee.
Meanwhile, the MusiCares Person of the Year benefit gala, which was scheduled to honor the Grateful Dead, will also be missing Matthews' performance. MusiCares is an organization that provides financial, personal, and medical assistance to music professionals in need.
Earlier this month, the Recording Academy and MusiCares launched the Los Angeles Fire Relief Effort with a $1 million donation. Thanks to additional contributions, they have already distributed $2 million in emergency aid to those affected by the wildfires in the music industry. The total amount raised and pledged for emergency aid now exceeds $4 million.
