Dave Grohl turns heads as he catches train to Glastonbury for secret Foo Fighters set

Dave Grohl stopped for a quick photo with a smiling member of staff when he got the train to Glastonbury Festival. Foo Fighters had been widely rumoured to be playing a surprise set at the festival, which started earlier this week.

When mysterious unknown band The Churnups appeared on the Glasto setlist, many had their theories that Grohl's band would be making an appearance, and when the band seemed to confirm it on Twitter by posting a picture of a flag reading "churn it up," the suspicions were confirmed.

They'd also been spotted standing backstage by eagle-eyed fans earlier in the day, and sure enough, it was Foo Fighters who walked on stage at 6.15pm. It marked their first full gig in the UK since the death of Taylor Hawkins, the band's drummer, although they had previously taken part in tribute concerts to Hawkins in London and LA.

Ahead of the Glastonbury performance, Dave Grohl was seen taking a GWR train to the festival, and after the Churnups secret was revealed, GWR shared a photo of Grohl with a member of train staff. Also in the shot were guitarist Pat Smear and bass player Nate Mendel.

A GWR spokesman said: ""Even rock royalty knows that there is no better way to travel to Glastonbury than by train! You never know who is going to churn up on board our trains!"

Fans on Twitter were jealous of those who got to travel with Grohl. One said: "I pretty much always book a table seat and if I got on a train and was sat next to f***ing Dave Grohl I think I'd spontaneously combust."

The Foos released their latest album, But Here We Are, earlier this month. It is the band's first LP since the tragic death of drummer Taylor Hawkins - and was described by critics as "heartbreaking but hopeful". Former Nine Inch Nails sticksman Josh Freese is playing drums for the band for future live gigs.
