Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl surprised Glastonbury-goers as he took to the stage and appeared to show a tattoo tribute to his late drummer pal Taylor Hawkins.
American artist Grohl, 53, flew in from the States to join music legend Sir Paul McCartney on stage last night (Saturday) as the Beatles legend made history as the oldest ever artist to headline at the iconic music event.
The festival appearance marked the first time the former Nirvana star had performed in public appearance since bandmate Hawkins sudden death in March, while Foo Fighters were on tour in Colombia.
And eagle-eyed fans at home reacted on Grohl's tattoo showing a large ‘T’ on the back of his right hand, appearing to be a tribute to his late friend and bandmate.
The singer openly pointed to the inked hand during an embrace with fellow artist Bruce Springsteen, who also guest starred the Liverpudlian singers' set.
One fan tweeted: ''Dave Grohl pointing to the Taylor Hawkins tribute tattoo on his hand at the end of the #PaulMcCartney set nearly damn finished me off. RIP Hawk.''
Another said: "Lovely moment at end of #PaulMcCartney set when #DaveGrohl pointed to his hand and showed a T tattoo for deeply missed #TaylorHawkins."
"Loving Dave Grohl ‘T’ tattoo on the back of his hand…..#Taylorhawkins with him everytime he’s playing guitar on stage now," one said.
Welcoming Grohl to the Pyramid stage, Sir Paul told the crowd: "I’ve got a little surprise for you. My friend from the west coast of America, Dave Grohl.''
The Foo Fighters frontman told how he hit setbacks after two of his flights were cancelled but was determined not to miss the historic event.
Sir Paul and Grohl kept crowds entertained with a medley of songs including Band On The Run, before Springsteen showed up for his guest spot.
Once they finished performing together, Sir Paul said: "Love you Dave thank you man we all love ya. Ladies and gentlemen one more time – Dave Grohl."
Later this year The Foo Fighters are also honouring their late band mate Hawkins to host of tribute concerts at Wembley Stadium in London.
Hawkins, 50, was found dead in his hotel room in Colombia on March 25. No cause of death has been release but a toxicology report showing traces of 10 different substances in his body – including opioids, marijuana and anti-depressants.
