Comedian Dave Chappelle was tackled onstage late Tuesday by a man with a replica gun at a Los Angeles comedy festival. He was reportedly uninjured.
The big picture: Posted videos showed the man climbing onto the the Hollywood Bowl stage and rushing toward Chappelle, per The Hollywood Reporter.
The LAPD said the weapon the man was carrying can eject a knife blade, NBC Los Angeles reports.
- The attacker had "superficial injuries" after being detained by security, police said. BuzzFeed News reporter Brianna Sacks later tweeted video of the alleged attacker being loaded onto an ambulance.
- Chappelle was performing as part of the 11-day Netflix Is A Joke Fest, along with Seth Rogen, Chelsea Handler, Aziz Ansari, Bill Burr and Conan O’Brien.
- Chris Rock, who had performed earlier in the evening, appeared onstage after the attack and said, "Was that Will Smith?" in reference to Smith smacking him at the Oscars, per THR.
The bottom line: The attack "is likely to reignite worries in the comedy community about audience members rushing the stage and attacking comedians," THR writes.
