Dave Bautista Open To New Superhero Roles Post-Drax Departure

Dave Bautista American actor

Actor Dave Bautista recently confirmed that he will not be reprising his role as Drax the Destroyer in future Marvel movies after 'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.' However, this does not mean he is done with the superhero genre altogether. Bautista expressed his continued interest in superhero movies and mentioned that he has informed Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige of his willingness to take on new roles within the Marvel or DC universes.

While Bautista emphasized that his journey as Drax has concluded, he remains open to exploring different and more substantial roles in the superhero universe. He expressed a desire to portray a menacing villain and delve into deeper character arcs. Bautista's decision to move on from Drax stemmed from the physically demanding nature of the role and his aspiration to pursue more dramatic acting opportunities.

Despite his departure from the role, Bautista has maintained a positive relationship with Marvel and expressed his admiration for the superhero genre. He previously voiced his disappointment in Marvel for not fully exploring Drax's intricate backstory on screen, believing the character had untapped potential.

Bautista's commitment to leaving Drax behind was solidified by the satisfying conclusion crafted by 'Guardians' director James Gunn. He stated that returning as Drax would diminish the character's poignant exit in the storyline.

Looking ahead, Bautista is focused on honing his dramatic acting skills, as evidenced by his collaboration with director Denis Villeneuve in 'Dune: Part Two.' He shared his gratitude for Villeneuve's support and encouragement, highlighting the director's belief in his acting abilities and the validation it provided.

'Dune: Part Two' is set to premiere in theaters on March 1, showcasing Bautista's dedication to exploring diverse roles and expanding his acting repertoire beyond the realm of superhero movies.
