The date a new Prime Minister will be announced was confirmed tonight.
Sir Graham Brady, the chairman of the 1922 Committee, has announced the timetable and rules ahead of the Conservative Leadership race after Boris Johnson resigned last week. Sir Brady said nominations to be leader of the party will close on Tuesday, with the first ballot taking place on Wednesday.
Instead of just eight supporters, candidates will now be expected to have 20, including their proposer and seconder. The names of the proposer and seconder will be made public.

Candidates must win at least 30 votes from Party colleagues to progress to a second ballot which is planned for Thursday. If the number of candidates has not then been narrowed down to two, ballots are expected to begin again on Monday next week.
Sir Graham said the new leader would be announced on September 5 but would not say when the final vote would take place.
He said it was a "perfectly reasonable" timetable that would allow hustings to take place around the country over the summer.
