Date announced for Martin Compston's Scottish Fling on BBC Scotland

Martin Compston said he fell 'in love with Scotland all over again' while filming

LINE of Duty Star Martin Compston is set to return to our screens as a debut date has been announced for his new BBC show Scottish Fling next month.

The series will see Compston and his friend and co-host Phil MacHugh take on an epic road trip around the country to explore Scotland’s landscapes and culture.

The six-part season will kick off in Compston’s home stomping ground of Greenock - where MacHugh has arranged for a trip across the water to Dunoon and the pair get to experience the traditional seaside holidays Compston remembers from his youth.

Then they will take viewers through the picturesque west coast where they show all the different ways people connect with the outdoors - before exploring the Western Isles, where MacHugh's family is from.

One of the highlights of the show has Compston and MacHugh showcasing Scotland’s world-famous seafood as they sup at Inver – a Green Michelin Star restaurant on the banks of Loch Fyne.

And through the course of their travels, the duo will traverse the east coast with stops at St Andrews, the home of golf, as well as Dundee and Aberdeen, before making their way to the Highlands.

On the Knoydart peninsula in the Highlands, the pair will try cliff jumping with outdoor enthusiasts Zeemon and Lucy in a once-in-a-lifetime coastal experience.

Other pit-stops include Glasgow, Edinburgh, Ayrshire, the Borders, Galloway and Stranraer – with the final episode being dedicated to the Lowlands.

Speaking of the show, Compston said: “Having spent the last few years travelling for work this is me getting reacquainted with my homeland and joining me is my lifelong pal the mighty Phil MacHugh …

“I’ve felt like I’m falling in love with Scotland all over again. It’s the place but it’s the people – that’s what makes it so special.”

The first episode will air on September 8 at 10pm on BBC Scotland.
