Data company creates 33 jobs at Belfast software development centre

Californian data company WANdisco is creating 33 jobs at its Belfast software development centre.

The company is recruiting software engineers, user acceptance testers, customer success executives, and managerial roles in a move which continues the evolution of the firm in Northern Ireland since first investing nearly 10 years ago.

It has joint headquarters in San Ramon, California and Sheffield, England with offices in Newcastle upon Tyne, China, Japan, Australia and South Korea, as well as Belfast.

It helps companies to migrate their data to the cloud and “accelerate their digital transformation”.

Alongside the 33 roles, an additional research and development project will create a further 11 posts which will see headcount at the firm double in the next three years in Northern Ireland.

David Richards, CEO of WANdisco, said the skillbase in Belfast helped develop its live data platform which has performed strongly across Europe and the US.

“With this new £7million investment, we plan to increase the platform’s functionality to integrate it with international cloud service providers and create 33 jobs,” he said. “This will pivot our appeal to new global customers.”

Invest NI has offered the company £953,024 of support towards R&D, skills development and the creation of 33 jobs.

George McKinney, Invest Northern Ireland’s Director of Technology & Services, said WANdisco’s reinvestment in innovation and research and development is bearing fruit.

“We’ve been working with WANdisco for almost a decade, providing business advice and R&D support to help it grow its Northern Ireland base,” he said. “This support is clearly reaping significant benefits for the company and the Northern Ireland economy. The 33 jobs will contribute almost £1.6million in annual salaries to the local economy once they are all in place.”
