Darwin Nunez sends cheeky one-word message to Virgil van Dijk after Liverpool goal confusion

Darwin Nunez has sent a cheeky message to Virgil van Dijk after Liverpool’s latest win.

The Reds claimed a 2-0 victory over Napoli on Tuesday night in the Champions League. Liverpool had already qualified for the knockout stages of the competition, and still finished in second place in Group A despite beating the Italian outfit.

Mohamed Salah opened the scoring in the 85th minute at Anfield. Nunez scored Liverpool’s second goal with what was pretty much the final kick of the game.

Nunez only entered the pitch in the 73rd minute, and ended the match with a goal to his name. And now he has sent a message to Van Dijk following the win.

The Uruguayan’s goal came from a close-range finish after Van Dijk’s header from a corner was saved but parried into his direction. Nunez has taken to Twitter to send a funny message to the defender.

Nunez simply wrote to Van Dijk: “Thanks,” whilst using a laughing emoji.

There was also some confusion as to who scored Liverpool’s opening goal. Salah was given the credit, after latching onto a loose ball from another corner.

It was unclear watching the match live who had headed the ball, with Nunez and Van Dijk vying for it in the air. After further replays. Nunez could be seen to have got his head on the cross, with the ball marginally short of crossing the line before Salah applied the finishing touch.
