Darwin Nunez's furious former agent vows "karma" will hit Liverpool star after bitter split

Darwin Nunez has been warned that "karma" will come back to bite him - but it's not an opposition defender with an axe to grind.

Instead, his former agent has vented his anger over the circumstances that preceded his big-money move to Liverpool. The Uruguayan international arrived at Anfield from Benfica in June in a club record deal that could yet be worth £85 million.

The 23-year-old is currently working with Jorge Mendes' Gestifute agency, having joined them when he was still plying his trade in Portugal. But prior to that he was represented by agent Edgardo Lasalvia who had joined forces with the striker whilst he was still playing for his first professional club, Uruguayan outfit Penarol.

But the split was anything but acrimonious, with Lasalvia critical at the way Nunez handled his switch at the time. And judging by his latest rant, Lasalvia has not forgiven the Premier League star.

“I had no chance to talk to Darwin,” he told El Observador. “I found out when he came with six bodyguards and did not want to speak at the airport, where Juanjo Acevedo was. I had sent a boy from the company to look for him.

“There I tried to call him and from a message from WhatsApp he told me that he loved me very much, that he would always be my friend, blah blah blah but that he was going to start a new path with another company, and he blocked me. I had no right to reply. Everyone chooses how they want to live life, but there is karma, and everything comes back."

And Lasalvia also argued that Nunez had to learn how to conduct himself as an individual: "You have to handle yourself as a good person and you have to have a memory. It is impossible that you do not have a memory," he added.

“He didn’t go with Jorge Mendes, he left with another agent, the same as (Nicolás) Otamendi. When he was in Benfica they did a little job like an ant, they started to eat his head. I got angry when I lost Darwin. It broke me in half because I adore the kid, but I understood that it’s business.”

Nunez got his time at Liverpool off to an inauspicious start, scoring on his debut at Fulham but then being red carded on his home debut against Crystal Palace. He's got nine league goals to his name so far this season, and 15 in all competitions.
