Darwin Nunez backtracks after claiming he can't understand Jurgen Klopp's instructions

Liverpool forward Darwin Nunez has revealed that he does in fact understand Jurgen Klopp after previously blaming the language barrier for his struggles in front of goal.

After failing to score in the 2-0 victory over Rangers on October 4, his fifth game in a row without a goal, the 23-year-old claimed he doesn't "understand anything" and has been struggling to get used to the German's accent when he speaks English.

However, the Uruguayan seems to have backtracked on those comments following his upturn in form, highlighting the impact that Klopp has on the team and proving that he may finally be getting used to things at Anfield.

Speaking on his start to life in the Premier League under Klopp, Nunez told ESPN: "Klopp is a coach who has things very clear, he likes that we press up high and that we also have the ball, that we don't rush to get to the opposite goal.

"He seeks that when we lose the ball we put pressure to recover it as quickly as possible; he is a coach who has things very clear and is very intelligent."

Those words are very clear from a player who was supposedly lost on what his manager was telling him. While it may show that Nunez might have been slightly over-exaggerating, it also highlights just how far he has come along in a short period of time.

How important will Darwin Nunez be for Liverpool this season? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.

Nunez already had the weight of being Liverpool's most expensive signing on his shoulders after arriving at the club, although goals against Manchester City in the Community Shield and Fulham in the Premier League in his first two games certainly suggested otherwise.

Then came a moment of madness against Crystal Palace in his first start for the Reds when he was sent off and banned for three matches after headbutting Joachim Anderson, before failing to score in five consecutive matches on his return to the side.

Although Liverpool's form has been shaky and inconsistent, Nunez has been one of the few positives of late. Three goals in his last four games finally shows that he is adapting to life in the top flight and finding his feet on Merseyside.

It can be assumed that his understanding of English is also improving, too, and that can only be a good thing for himself, his teammates and Klopp, especially with his growing importance to the team amid their continuous injury woes.

Five goals and one assist in his first 12 games for the Reds doesn't make horrendous reading, but Nunez has admitted that he is looking to move on from his inconsistent start. He said: "I have been able to adapt very well, starting with the right foot.

"Then I had a bad run, where I was sent off against Crystal Palace. What I did was very bad but it won't happen again, I've already learned from my mistakes. The Premier League is a very competitive league, it is the best league in the world for me. Now I hope to lift my head and move on."
