Darwin Nunez advised to snub Manchester United transfer for Liverpool FC

Benfica sensation Darwin Nunez has been urged to snub Manchester United and sign for Liverpool FC instead.

Having scored 34 goals in 41 matches for the Portuguese side last season - including six in the Champions League - the Uruguayan has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League and United are understood to have him on their radar. It comes as Erik ten Hag sets about his much-needed rebuild.

As thing stand, the Dutchman wants to bring in a new centre-back and at least one central midfield recruit. United are also keen to sign a versatile attacking option and Nunez very much fits the bill in that regard.

Benfica are open to cashing-in on their prized asset this summer window, but only on the basis that their financial demands are met. Nunez, 22, has three years left to run on his contract having signed for the club from UD Almeria in September 2020.

It could take more than £60million to land his goal-scoring services in time for next season. However, that's not the only concern for United as they are, also, braced for heavy-handed competition for his signature.

Liverpool are among the sides thought to be in the market for Nunez as they face up to the prospect of losing one of their own star players, Sadio Mane, to Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich. According to one former Liverpool man, Nunez would be the perfect replacement.

Posting an article which suggests United are front-runners for the Benfica man, Jose Enrique added this caption to his Instagram story: "I hope this is not true and he comes to us instead. We should go for him, a top player who can become world class under [Jurgen] Klopp if we sell Sadio Mane."
