A man has allegedly sexually assaulted an unconscious woman on a suburban Darwin footpath in broad daylight.
Northern Territory police were called to Ellengowan Drive in the northern suburb of Brinkin near Charles Darwin University about 2.50pm on Wednesday.
The man, 48, struck the woman, which caused her to become unconscious before he sexually assaulted her, a spokeswoman says.
The alleged assault also left the woman with injuries to her face.
A man was arrested and taken to Palmerston Watch House.
He was charged with sexual intercourse without consent and gross indecency in public.
Police have called for witnesses to the incident to come forward.
