Darvel stars visit school as youngsters get right behind team for Aberdeen Scottish Cup clash

Darvel schoolkids have been willing their heroes on to Scottish Cup success.

The East Ayrshire club take on giants Aberdeen in the national competition tonight, and the locals are getting right behind the team.

The Pittodrie side head to the small town roughly 10 miles from Kilmarnock, and over 2,000 home fans will be cheering on the non-league hopefuls.

And in the build-up to the match, Darvel boss Michael Kennedy along with players Darren Miller and Jordan Allan visited Darvel Primary School where the kids let the team know they're behind them all the way with hand-written notes.

One child wrote a letter saying: "To Darvel players, I really hope you win this game.

"You are great players and kind people, I wish you the best of luck. You got this!"

Another said: "Good luck for the game on Monday v Aberdeen. We wish you the best of luck.

"I will be there. Go smash Aberdeen."

And one more hopeful youngster added: "Come on the Darvel. You can smash Aberdeen 10-0!"

Boss Kennedy has been delighted with how much the community has rallied behind the team for this special occasion.

He said: "Myself, the coaching staff and players have all really bought into this at Darvel.

"We know a lot of the fans by name, we've got a close relationship with them.

"If we are going to have any chance of winning the game, we need the town to get behind us, and they will do in their thousands.

"This is how you capture imaginations, and capture people's loyalty and love for the club and hopefully grow the fan base.

"If people see us perform on nights like this they will hope it's something they'll see on a regular occurrence, and that's the aspiration for us all.

"The only way we will achieve that is get the town behind us every week, they will come out in their numbers this week and we can't wait."
