Kevin McGregor reckons Darvel will be talking about their famous win against Aberdeen for years to come.
The West of Scotland Premier Division side pulled off the biggest shock in Scottish Cup history, and the impact on the town has been incredible.
And as both a councillor for the Irvine Valley, and as a resident, Mr McGregor knows how important the result was for the full community.
He told the Kilmarnock Standard: “The whole mood of the town and the Irvine Valley is just jubilation, people are walking around with big smiles on their faces.
“Darvel has got a really strong community set-ups, the community council run a lot of the projects and they’re really active.
“It was great seeing Darvel on the front pages of the papers, but also on the main section of the BBC website, just incredible.
“People really sat up and took notice, it was an incredible night for the town and the impact will be felt for years and years to come.
“The community will be celebrating this and refering to it for a long time, if we can get past Falkirk then that’s just incredible.
“I’m sure there was people from the whole Irvine Valley there at the game, and further afield, it was a real community event.
“You wouldn’t blame the team if they came down the main street in an open top bus.”
Cllr McGregor added: “I was at the community council [CC] a couple of days after the game and you could just tell how important it was.
“The chair of the CC admitted he wasn’t a football fan, but even he couldn’t believe just how good it was.
“The thing is, it won’t just be a flash in the pan because we won and we’ve got another huge game against Falkirk now.
“If they play like that again, goodness knows what’ll happen – I am also a Kilmarnock fan so there’s also that possibility of that derby which would be unthinkable.
“The club had the community right behind them, on the Saturday before the game the place was buzzing because there was an open day and fans were able to see around the place and meet the players.
“You could tell from then that the game was going to live up to the hype, the full town got behind the team and the place was layered in bunting.
“I can’t even sum up the night, it was incredible for me who goes to Darvel games and stays in the Irvine Valley, but it’s some scene for people coming Doon the Brae for the first time.
“There was a lot of emotion from people in the local community.
Darvel boss Michael Kennedy headed along to Darvel Primary School before the game to speak to youngsters, and they were right behind the team.
And Mr McGregor reckons that can only be positive for the future generation.
He said: “A result like this one will capture the local children’s imagination and hopefully create fans for life.
“That’s what you want to see, there’s no denying that Darvel are ambitious and the sky’s the limit, so it’s a great time for the youngsters to get involved.”
