Darren Harriott becomes fifth star to leave Dancing On Ice after tense skate off

Darren Harriott has become the fifth star to leave Dancing On Ice after a tense skate-off against Siva Kaneswaran.

The remaining stars and their professional partners returned to the ice once again to perform a series of routines during movie week.

Ice skating icons Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean were on the judging panel along with Ashley Banjo and Oti Mabuse.

The latest episode saw Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby deliver the news that Darren and Tippy Packard and Siva and Klabera Komini had landed in the skate-off following a vote.

After the skate-off on Sunday evening, Darren was eliminated and became the fifth celebrity to leave the ITV competition.

The judges chose to save Siva which will take him to next weekend's Props Week.

"I lasted a lot longer than I expected. I thought I'd be out before the show started," Darren said.

"Honestly, thank you, thank you to everyone. I've never skated before Everyone's been so nice, all the pros and all the celebs."

He went on to praise professional partner Tippy and said: "I've never met anybody like Tippy... Her enthusiasm!"

Fans took to Twitter to say their goodbyes after watching Darren skate for the last time.

"What a lovely genuine guy Darren seems, he did so well too! Great to see the progression especially when he’s never done anything like it before." one person said.

Another added: "Sad to see Darren and Tippy go," while one wrote: "Nice of Darren to give a little shoutout for Tippy, given how badly this show usually treats the pros. He wasn’t great but will miss him."

Siva previously couldn't perform due to an illness and said that he was "gutted" after being forced to pull out.

In a statement, the ITV dancing show confirmed that The Wanted star couldn't perform last week.

A spokesperson told the Mirror: "Due to illness Siva will not skate in this weekend's show. We look forward to welcoming him back next weekend."

While Siva said: "I'm gutted that I won't be performing this weekend but I picked up a bug earlier in the week which I haven’t been able to shake so I need to rest and get myself better.

"Good luck to all the contestants this weekend - I'm looking forward to watching everyone's performances!"

Meanwhile, Joey Essex sparked concern after he shared a glimpse of a nasty injury he got while training recently.

The blow comes a week after The Wanted's Siva Kaneswaren was forced to withdraw from last week's live show at the 11th hour after falling ill.

This week Joey is the one giving ITV bosses a headache as he revealed he was laid up in bed with a wound to his leg.

The injury appeared so bad that Joey added an ice skate emoji over his bare foot to shield fans from what lay beneath.

While the upper half of Joey's leg was wrapped up in a black bandage.

"Had better days," he added as the caption.

Last week, EastEnders star Patsy Palmer was eliminated while Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu was voted off the week before.
