Darius Slay Announces Return to Eagles in Shocking Free Agency Twist

In a major twist to the tale, the Eagles are expected to re-sign star cornerback Darius Slay

On Wednesday, reports emerged indicating that Slay was expected to leave the team in free agency. The cornerback himself chimed in on the topic, seemingly bidding farewell to Philadelphia via Twitter.

Come Wednesday night, however, it seems the organization was able to reach some neutral ground with the defensive back.

Slay took to Twitter late on Wednesday seemingly announcing that he was returning to the Eagles, in what was a complete 180.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Eagles never officially released the 32-year-old on Wednesday, and it’s now looking likely that he ends up sticking around.

While no deal has officially been reported, Slay—and his wife—took to Twitter to celebrate.

The Eagles have seen multiple members of the defensive depart during free agency, so managing to work out a deal to keep Slay in town is a major coup for the franchise.

Slay's now-probable return to Philly comes on the heels of the Eagles retaining Fletcher Cox and James Bradberry.

The 10-year veteran recorded three interceptions, 55 tackles and 14 passes defended while spearheading the Eagles secondary in 2022, and will now return as a key cog for the team going forward.

The terms of his new deal have not yet been revealed, but based on Slay's reaction via Twitter, he’s absolutely fired up over the prospective agreement with the franchise.
