Darius Olaru to Rangers transfer addressed as Steaua Bucharest get tough with midfielder after exit timeline hint

Steaua Bucharest owner Gigi Becali has attempted to shut down talk of Darius Olaru joining Rangers after the midfielder was reportedly scouted by the Ibrox side.

The captain has long been touted as a potential Rangers target dating back to Gio van Bronckhorst's time at the helm, and fresh reports emerged in Romania on Monday that the Scottish Premiership side are keeping tabs on the 24-year-old with a view to a move in the summer as Michael Beale looks ahead to the summer. It was claimed that the Light Blues planned to continue to send scouts to watch the Romania international to complete their evaluation ahead of a potential summer offer.

It was noted that FCSB would demand a fee in the region of £4.4million, but the Romanian title hopefuls now look to be attempting to close the exit door on their key man this summer. Becali was put on the spot about the prospect of the versatile midfielder leaving the club for Rangers.

He issued a blunt response to Romanian outlet Sport Media, insisting there was no question marks over the status of Olaru. The FCSB supremo said: "No one is leaving, there is no question."

The comment comes after Olaru left the door open for a summer exit to another European league. He said: "I don't know, I don't know anything. I don't know who it will be, I think we are a lot of good players, with quality, and I hope that more of us will take the step abroad."
