Darius Campbell Danesh's cause of death could be unknown for two months

Darius Campbell Danesh 's family could face an agonising two-month wait before discovering the star's cause of death.

The former Pop Idol star was found unresponsive in an apartment in Rochester, Minnesota, on August 11 and a family statement announced his death on Tuesday. Local police in the area said there were "no signs of intent or suspicious circumstances" and said they are awaiting toxicology results, but they could take up to two months.

A police spokesman said: "The investigation into the cause of his death is still pending. There is no known threat to the public."

Fans of the former singer-turned-actor pointed out on Wednesday that the area in which he lived was an obscure choice. He had been staying at The Berkman apartments, billed as Rochester’s premier address for “elegant short-term and long-term furnished suites and residential living”. Most tenants who live at the block of flats work or are being treated at the Mayo Clinic nearby.

The Mayo Clinic is ranked among the top hospitals in the world, and has treated prominent figures, including Muhammad Ali, Johnny Cash, and Ronald Reagan. It is well known for its pioneering research into cancer and heart surgery, and face transplants.

The moment Darius was found dead was revealed yesterday in a police dispatch call obtained by The Sun. It shows a call was placed at 11.53am when a 'medical' team was requested for a 'possible deceased' person.

Following the sad news of his death, the world of showbiz paid their tribute. Among those sending messages of condolence was Simon Cowell, who said: "I first saw Darius on television over 20 years ago and I got to know him really well.

“He was charismatic, funny and just a great person to be with. His passing, for someone so young, is an absolute tragedy and my heart goes out to his family and friends."

Fellow Pop Idol star Gareth Gates also paid tribute, saying: "I can’t quite believe the news of my dear friend Darius passing. I’m heartbroken. Darius took me under his wing during our time in Pop Idol, like a big brother; always looking out for me and for that I thank you my friend.

"I will miss our chats. He was one of the most beautiful, intelligent and gentle souls I was lucky enough to know, a soul that lit up every room. Goodbye my friend. Forever in my heart."
