Steve Lawson says having Darian MacKinnon in as assistant boss creates stability at Hamilton Accies, and hopes he instils the desire he showed as a player.
Lawson, 28, found it tough going against MacKinnon while clashing against Hamilton with Livingston in the past, but is delighted that the 36-year-old is now in the dug-out.
And he says that can only help boss and fellow former midfielder John Rankin, going forward.
Lawson said: “I think it’s a good thing to have him as a coach with John Rankin, the gaffer, because he played here, he knows the mentality of the club.
“He was a good player. I played against him a few times, so I think he will help us a lot to develop the team, the mentality, the way we play and to help us get more points.
“There is more stability, it helps us, because when you have in front of you two former players, it’s easier to understand what they want to say, because we know they played football.
“They know football, they don’t talk rubbish. If they say something, it means it’s true.
“Darian played here, I played against him, and it was tough to play against him every time.
“It will help us for him to give that desire he had when he was a player, so that helps us a lot.”
