Danny Malin opens his own takeaway in Leeds after being 'wowed' by friend's burgers

Rate My Takeaway Youtube star Danny Malin has opened his own fast food takeaway in Leeds.

The internet funny man has opened burger joint Brody’s in Robin Lane, Pudsey. Danny, 42, owned the premises in its previous form as Robin Lane Deli – but decided to completely remodel the business after tasting and being "wowed" by friend Ashleigh Steel’s burgers.

Ashleigh, 24, had opened a burger trailer Brody’s beside an industrial park in Inter City Way, Bramley, in November 2021. The burger trailer became so popular and well known in the area, there were lengthy queues and Danny had to pay a visit.

After sampling the food, Danny offered up his space in Robin Lane, and is now in business with Ashleigh and her partner Michael Donoghue, 33. Brody’s offers a range of American style takeaway food options, with beef and chicken burgers, with smoked bacon, loaded fries, southern fried chicken wings and bites, and has a variety of milkshakes on the menu.

Danny first became friends with Ashleigh about six years ago, delivering meat from Malcolm Michaels Quality butchers to a deli where Ashleigh worked. He met her more recently and caught up, little did they know this would lead to a life-changing business venture.

Danny said: “We were talking a few weeks ago in a cash-and-carry when I heard about Brody’s. I went up and had a sampling of the food and it wowed me, to be honest.

'No brainer'

“I’ve known Ashleigh for a while, so I know what her work ethic is like and I know she’s quite driven in what she wants to do. “For me personally, coming together was a no brainer. I know it’s going to be good stuff.”

Danny describes himself as a “silent partner” in this venture, leaving all the practical work to Ashleigh and her team. Before Ashleigh first opened the trailer, she was working as a carer, but went back into the food industry as she’s “passionate” about street food.

The business is named after Ashleigh’s one-year-old baby boy Brody, she also has a child called Heidi, 5. Ashleigh has said it’s been “hard work” but is excited to get it up and running.

Ashleigh said: “Street food is just the thing at the minute. Everyone is after burgers and loaded fries, that type of food. We’re good at cooking southern fried chicken – it goes well with burgers.

“I’m passionate about street food and I love working with food.” Brody’s head chef is Brett Woods, 23, another old friend of Ashleigh’s. Since they began working together, the food has taken off.

“The trailer took off really well and it’s just come so quick now that Brody’s has a shop. We’ve just smashed it,” said Ashleigh. Danny’s latest business venture comes after a series of exciting developments for the Youtube star.
