Danny Dyer’s wife ‘cleared their bank account’ after he cheated and stopped him seeing daughter Dani

Danny Dyer has revealed that his wife “cleared their bank account” after he cheated on her in a new interview.

The former EastEnders star, 45, met his now wife Joanne Mas as a young teenager, and the pair went on to have three children before getting married in 2016.

Dyer was unfaithful in their relationship early on, and admitted that Mas, 46, cleared their account and stopped him from seeing their eldest daughter Dani, back in 2000, after he was exposed for cheating at the time.

The actor recalled it being a “mad period” in his life and shared no blame towards his wife for her reaction to his infidelity.

Dyer told The Times: “It was a mad period. I do now realise what’s important to me are my family. They are everything.”

Dyer opened up about his abandonment issues, stemmed from his relationship with his father, and imposter syndrome, being from a working-class background, and credited therapy in helping recover and stop making stupid mistakes.

The soap star spent a month in South Africa in what he described as a “psychiatric unit”, as well as a “rehab”, to treat his mental health issues, which also improved his relationship.

“When you go to therapy, fame doesn’t exist. It’s stripped away," Dyer said.

"You have to learn to be true to yourself. That’s what you need to be every single day when you open your eyes and bounce out of bed."

Dyer previously spoke about finally tying the knot on The Jonathan Ross Show in 2018, confessing at the time that “I don’t know what took me so long.”

However, recently the actor questioned the point of marriage with daughter Dani, 26, on their podcast, after hearing a listener’s wedding dilemma.

Dyer said: “This is the thing, why the f*** do we get married?

“You know like, listen to Ruth [their listener’s] f***ing dilemma - you get married for other people. ‘Oooh who’s going to come? Who’s going to sit where?’ F*** all that."

Dani agreed, adding: "There’s so many politics when it comes to the wedding. You do actually make it more about everyone else rather than you."
