Danny Dyer reveals moment he feared he'd made a mistake leaving EastEnders role

Danny Dyer said he started to regret leaving EastEnders at his emotional leaving party.

The actor left the soap after nine years but wondered if he had made the right decision.

The 45-year-old said he was doing a speech at his leaving party when he realised how much the job had given him over the years. However, he has now moved on to other acting roles, with his latest being in new TV series Heat which is set to air on Channel 5.

Danny said: "I wrapped on EastEnders after nine years, had a very emotional leaving party. And I was doing my speech.

"And I was thinking: 'S***, have I made a mistake here? I love everybody here so much. And it’s given me so much, this job'…"

Danny played the role of Mick Carter in EastEnders but his role came to an end when he was presumed dead after jumping into the sea and not resurfacing.

Despite Mick being presumed to be dead some think, due to no body being found, Danny would be able to reprise his role in the future.

His latest gig is worlds away from Walford as Danny's latest role in Heat involves him heading down under to play Steve, a British expat living in Australia with his family.

Talking about how he found it filming overseas, he said: "It was very different from EastEnders, I must say.

"The thing about EastEnders is it does become quite a nine to five thing, and as an actor, I think that can be quite wearing, because we do need to work with different people – personally, you need to have different sets, different environments, different actors around you really, to keep your juices flowing.

"So to go from studio work into that was quite exciting to me."

However, there were moments that Danny was nervous due to there being so many snakes being on set.

He added: "But there was a guy on set who was literally there to walk around and look for snakes. Because it rained a lot, and the snakes like the rain, he basically was walking around with his f****** great big steel toe cap boots on and a torch…

"I was like: 'F****** hell, I’ve never dealt with this b******* before'."
