EastEnders star and TV presenter Danny Dyer has quit his role on BBC quiz show The Wall, it has been reported. It follows the news earlier this year that the 44-year-old soap star would also be leaving his role in BBC's EastEnders after nine years.
The prime time game show started in 2019 with Danny taking on the role as host and Angela Rippon voicing the questions. It has also seen celebrity editions, staring famous couples such as Martin and Shirlie Kemp, Ronan and Storm Keating, Sarah Millican and Gary Delaney and many more.
But it now looks like Danny will be stepping down from presenting duties, The Mirror reports. When asked by a reporter from The Sun, whether Danny would be returning to present another series of The Wall, he simply replied: "No".
Danny has already been confirmed to be hosting a new quiz show over on Netflix. He will be joining co-host actress and comedian Ellie Taylor for a brand new Netflix quiz show 'Cheat'.
The announcement was made on May 16 via Netflix's Twitter account. The new programme will see contestants 'cheat' their way to a fortune as four players will test their knowledge, competing over three rounds to build a jackpot worth up to £50,000.
The programme is set to launch in 2023 but a release date is yet to be confirmed. Speaking on the new programme in a statement, Danny said: "This is a great new series and there’s no quiz show better suited for me; expect enormous wins, loads of slippery people cheating and banter with the one and only, Ellie Taylor".
In January this year, Danny revealed he would leaving his role as Mick Carter in EastEnders after nine years on the soap, when his contract came to an end later in 2022. According to The Mirror, he had been 'poached by Sky' for a new deal.
He previously told The Mirror that he was taking "a risk" by exiting the soap, but that the break from show had been on his mind "for a while". "When you're in a job like a soap your contract comes up for renewal and every time it has they've asked me to stay," he explained: "And I'm very grateful for that. Because I've seen a lot of people come and go. It's very tough.
"I always debate whether I want to sign again and I've been contemplating a while now about whether it's time to roll the dice, take the leap. The big news is I've decided not to renew my contract. That's all.
"That's not because I've fallen out with anybody, I love everybody. That job has been amazing for me. It's an important part of television. I'm grateful for the beautiful years I've had there. I'm going to miss the people massively. It's me taking a risk."
