Danny Dyer inspired by Jeremy Clarkson to launch new business venture

Danny Dyer says he wants to make it his mission to “bring back the Briish holidays” by investing in a caravan park.

The actor, 47, said he has fond memories of family holidays in carvans as a child and that they bring out a sense of “nostalgia” for him that he wants to share with others.

Appearing on Saturday’s episode of ITV’s The Jonathan Ross Show, the former EastEnders star explained that he had been inspired by seeing fellow TV personality Jeremy Clarkson step out of his comfort zone by branching out into farming.

He told chatshow host Ross: “I’m going to invest some dough into a caravan site. I went to caravans on my holiday as a kid - Canvey Island. Caravans are a thing for me, it’s very much about nostalgia. I seen Jeremy Clarkson is cracking on with his farm so I’m going to try and run a caravan site and bring back the British holidays.”

Danny Dyer said he admired the way Jeremy Clarkson (left) had launched himself into farming (Amazon Prime)

He doesn’t intend to turn his back on his acting career however and was on the show to promote his upcoming film Marching Powder, in which he appears alongside his real-life son, Arty, 11.

Insisting that there was nobody else who could have played Arty’s role, he said: “I couldn’t have done it with another kid. I’ve got a really close bond with my son. We improvised a lot of stuff. I didn’t know if he could do it but he came in and did it. He wasn’t that bothered.”

The life-long West Ham United fan also waxed lyrical about his daughter Dani’s upcoming wedding to West Ham player, Jarrod Bowen, whom the dad-of-three described as his “ideal man”.

“Listen, he loves her and adores her and that’s all I want. It’s just such a bonus that he plays for West Ham. I do feel sorry for my other daughter Sunnie - there is no man she can bring home that will match. She [Dani] has brought home the ideal man for me.”

It might have been a different story however if Bowen played for Millwall FC, with Dyer joking: “We might have had some issues.”

The Jonathan Ross Show airs Saturday at 9:30pm on ITV1, ITVX, STV and STV Player.
