Danny Dyer put Ed Sheeran well and truly in his place over his claims that traditional fish and chip shops in London aren’t up to scratch.
Asked by Topjaw, the popular Instagram interview platform, to name London’s “most overrated” restaurant, singer Sheeran, 34, told presenter Jesse Burgess: “One of my beliefs is that you should always be able to see the sea when you have fish and chips, so anywhere that does traditional fish and chips in London. It’s like getting sushi in Alabama.”
Proud East Londoner Dyer, 47, was having none of it however, with the Marching Powder actor telling The Standard: “That would only be a man who is not from London who would say that.”
He added: “I think he’s from Ipswich, which I think sums him up.”
The former EastEnders star is currently on a mission to “bring something new” to classic fish and chips as he teams up with Frank’s RedHot Sauce for his latest role as “The Codfather”.
He said: “Nothing beats a proper chippy tea – it’s a timeless British classic we all know and love… but when you add Frank’s RedHot into the mix, blimey, it’s something else! I’ve always been a fan of Frank's because it adds the perfect touch of flavour and heat without blowing your head off.”
Dyer added: “Trust me, it’s proper naughty!”
Reflecting on his “sauciest” moments on set, he said there have been a few “odd ones”.
“You have to sort of get naked on set and stuff like that,” he elaborated.
“I was introduced really early to being naked, but I had to masturbate in a film called Human Traffic in 1999. I had to masturbate on my own in front of 40 people. I’m still quite traumatised over it actually and I think everyone in the room was.”
